Daisy Jacobs, 5, and her sister Isobel, 7, from Droitwich look forward to nest box decorating at Webbs, Wychbold.
Youngsters will be encouraging our wild birds to thrive thanks to a fun nest box decorating event at Webbs garden centre in Wychbold during half term week.
The hands-on workshop co-incides with National Nestbox Week which aims to encourage everyone to put up nest boxes in their local area to help our breeding birds and wildlife.
From Monday, 13th to Friday, 17th February youngsters can visit Webbs, Wychbold and decorate a wooden nestbox then take it home for the garden. The sessions run from 11am – 4pm and cost £4.99 to include all materials and a £1 donation to the Greenfingers Charity which creates magical gardens for children’s hospices.
There is also a chance for families to follow a fun trail around the beautiful Riverside Gardens at Webbs. Entry to the gardens is free and all trail entries will go into a draw to win a prize. The trail is open from 11am to 5pm.
Executive Chairman Ed Webb said, “It’s a great time to remind ourselves to encourage our local bird life and children will love decorating these ready made nest boxes.”
He added, “The natural nest sites on which many of our bird species depend, such as holes in trees and buildings, are fast disappearing as gardens and woods are ‘tidied’ and old houses are repaired. This is just one small way of helping to ensure we are doing all we can to help our bird population.”
During half term week at Webbs there will also be face painting, children’s fair rides (weather dependent) and entertainment from Professor Pepperpot.
Tickets for Nest Box Decorating can be bought in store on the day.
